This morning at 3:00 AM, I was woken up by my close friend, family-like, a sister. She is going back home to Guangzhou and we won't be able to see each other and do things together for a while now. I am glad that she will visit Singapore some time, so it isn't good bye. We will say hello again with a warm cuddle. I will send you 1 post card for every destination I travel. I will miss the times we spent together in Tasmania and Canberra. May we meet again and travel together again, Li Xinran, Joyce.

Gold Coast
It was difficult to make this trip happen because of the assumptions and bad planning. What could I say... I still made it happen amidst the rush of the exams. A trip of discovery and learning as well. Credits goes to Cheryl Fong who initiated this trip.

13 June 2014, Cloudy, Coolongatta Airport > Mariner's Cove, Surfer's Paradise
Did not have proper rest because I was planning the events all the way till this date. Had an hour's rest before setting off on Murray bus to Sydney airport, then to Gold Coast's Coolangatta airport. Lunch was subway. We then made our way via bus to our first destination: Surfer's Paradise, Mariner's Cove. Since it was winter, surfing would be very cold, and no surfing was done. However, when we first saw the beaches, our jaws dropped.

The beach is so wide from the grass to the water, the length extends beyond what the eyes can see. What majestic beauty, Gold Coast. Pictures in a cloudy gloomy day do not do justice to your beauty. We walked in the rain and walked back, having dinner at Peter's Fish and Chips. Delicious. Night at YHA.

14 June 2014, Cloudy, Mariner's Cove > South Stradbroke Island > Mariner's Cove
This day was supposed to be the most extreme day I would ever have in my life, having sea plane and para-gliding in the itinerary. Took a ferry to the island and had a wonderful lunch. To our horror, Island Adventures did not offer them in this season. Determined not to let the trip to the island go to waste, we explored the island on foot, discovering 'An Island Hideaway', a wedding is going on! After that, we spontaneously went for a 4WD trip to the big beach in the island, the beautiful side of the island, according to the local guide;and played some sand boarding.

It was very fun indeed. We also missed the speed boating while being busy with the 4WD trip. Things did not go right today, really. We made a promise to ourselves that tomorrow would be better. We scraped animal watching (was lame) and decided to do more extreme stuff. Went for dinner by walking 40 minutes to a Japanese restaurant, surprisingly well decorated, very good soba noodles.

15 June 2014, Clear, Mariner's Cove > Coolongatta
It really went pretty extreme. We started the morning with Jet Skiing. People say no one doesn't smile on a Jet ski.

True enough, we went crazy with the Jet skiing, leaving us with crazy laughter, what an experience! Jet skiing is very addictive. We raced down Mariner's Cove with the winds blowing on us. A professional photographer on the water took a picture for us. Lunch was at a random cafe, but it turned out nice. We then traveled to Coolongatta and went for a helicopter ride near the airport. The pilot took us around the area and showed us some nice view from the bird's eye. Was really an eye opener.

Ended the day with another long walk towards a Chinese restaurant for dinner. Along the way, we caught beautiful sunset with Gold Coast CBD area in the backdrop. Always love sunset shots, no matter how cliche they are. At the restaurant, the black pepper combination turned out surprisingly nice.

16 June 2014, Clear, Coolongatta
Woke up and caught the flight back to Sydney domestic airport. We had to walk to Sydney International airport for the coach so that we save the $5.50. I have no idea what got into the blood of my travel mate, she believed google maps and took a crazy route even after me telling her that I walked the route before and knows a good route. Haiz, I wonder what I did wrong there to make her believe in a machine. Caught the Murray bus back, safe in Canberra.
